Hypnotherapy for Mental Health

Valerie Veza, LCSW, CH.T - Therapist

Valerie Veza, LCSW, CH.T - Therapist

In addition to her LCSW license, Valerie Veza is a certified hypnotherapist, with training in three different methods of hypnotherapy for mental health.

The state induced by hypnosis is a natural human experience. Most people experience it spontaneously – at times of trauma, surprise, and confusion, as well as at times of intense performance and meditation. Certified hypnotherapists like Ms. Veza use techniques to invite a trance-like state of hypnosis in a cooperative relationship to support clients in meeting their clinical, mental health, or performance goals in a way that is authentic to the individual.

The method she uses most often is the Milton Erickson method. Dr. Erickson was a medical doctor who modeled his hypnotherapy practice on neurolinguistic programming, family therapy, brief solution-oriented therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other therapeutic approaches. Through his fifty years of practice, as well as his international network of training institutes, Milton Erickson’s methods have been shown to work with a variety of clients. Neuroscience has shown that there are special cells in the brain that map our experience of bodily sensation, social emotion (like love, anger, resentment, or surprise). Through using imagination and storytelling, clients can use this capability to allow unconscious change to begin.

When you meet with Ms. Veza, you would start with a conversation about your therapeutic goals. It could be recovering from an injury or preparing for surgery, improving performance, reducing pain, improving sleep, overcoming fears, changing habits, or managing anxiety. Clients often report noticeable changes after their sessions – improved physical comfort and a sense of ease.  As one client reported, she learned that “it is possible, even in a difficult time, to be very relaxed.” This state of relaxation in difficult situations allows us to stay grounded in our values and goals for change.

Endurance – A Sports & Psychology Center, Inc. is pleased to be able to offer this additional service of hypnotherapy, along with Ms. Veza’s other therapeutic work. For individuals who want to get more active in order to address their mental health goals, Ms. Veza may help you change habits, improve sleep, and address other barriers that stand in your way. For athletes, hypnotherapy may also be used to improve performance, enhance focus, and overcome barriers.

To schedule an appointment with Ms. Veza, please call 510.981.1471.
